The founder of the Aphrodite Fitness & Health Spa created this program  in summer 2004 after the realization that she too had been struggling to lose weight for the past 2 years with no results. The following is an outline of the approach she took to put this successful program together.

 

Technology Infusion Project
Target Audience
 
  • Women who are overweight or obese. Women that indicate a struggle with losing weight or maintaining an ideal weight; ‘yo-yo’ dieters. 
Problem 
 
  • Women who are unsuccessful with their current weight loss program is due to the lack of motivation and interest to live a healthy lifestyle and/or to be physically fit, and also, the lack of accurate knowledge necessary for positive results.
  • Countless ‘fad’ diets and risky ‘extreme makeover’ surgeries are the culprits to this problem. These methods are too drastic and costly. Most of them sacrifice accurate information, such as a realistic timeframe, and instead, use advertising gimmicks, such as ‘lose 10lbs. in two weeks’, to appeal to overweight or obese individuals who are desperate to lose weight and ‘wish’ for a quick and easy way to get results. These women then become very dependent on such fad diets that barely provide them with information through 30-second commercials and infomercials. 
  • Failure of these diets has created a loss of interest to try another method, believing that it is the individual and not the diet program that has failed. Motivation to lose weight decreases, as individuals feel that they have no support and that the implementation of the diet program into their lifestyle seems too difficult. These individuals may eventually become complacent with their current weight and do nothing; give up.
  • Therefore, Aphrodite Fitness & Health Spa has explored the reasons why these diet programs are not providing the desired results. We have taken this information and have created a program that provides these women with alternatives that guarantee success with accurate information, proper techniques, and realistic goal and timeframe.


Measurable Learning Outcomes
 

  • Women are being inspired and motivated to lose weight and maintain their ideal weight through our ‘one stop’ cost efficient exercise routines and daily nutrition plans to suit their individual lifestyles. 
  • They are now equipped with the proper tools and knowledge required to fulfill this life-long task. 
  • With more money in their pockets, all our members are getting the results they desired and are enjoying their new bodies by doing it the smart way.


Conceptual Basis
 

  • Active/Generative Learning – provide information as to why their current diet program was NOT working and suggest alternatives. Or, create a new exercise and meal plan, using existing knowledge of losing weight.
  • Collaborative Learning & Knowledge-building Community – use our facilities to exercise as a group in aerobic classes with a certified instructor or by pairs in our weight room with our trainers. Women can build friendships among others with common vision and will, and they will have the opportunity to share their experiences to help motivate each other.
  • Constructivism – adapt what works for you from past successes and stay committed to it as a new lifestyle.


Approach
 

  • Use a tailored information kiosk to advertise the Aphrodite Fitness & Health Spa to recruit new members. These kiosks are located at various nutrition/supplement stores, such as GNC and Vitamin World. 
  • Women receive private consultation with expert nutritionist/trainer who works on a one-on-one basis to create meal and exercise plans to meet their specific ‘suggested’ goals.
  • We have available 24 hours everyday, including FREE babysitting, a gym which consist of: a weight room equipped with state of the art machines, indoor pool and spa, dance/aerobic rooms with wooden floors and mirrored walls, and a snack bar filled with delicious, but nutritious foods. 
  • We also offer fun group fitness classes to satisfy everyone’s interests and needs, such as: yoga, kickboxing, cycling, resistance training, to name a few. In these classes, women are learning the proper forms and techniques of exercising to avoid injury and promote positive results.
  • Motivational video that shows what Aphrodite Fitness & Health Spa can do for you. 
  • Interactive website that provides information about our facilities and provides tools to aide in our weight lose program, such as: BMI and heart rate calculator, caloric intake and calories burned counter, and graphs to track progress.


Assessing Performance
 

  • Meet as often as desired with nutritionist/trainer for assessment of progress.
  • Provide incentives, such as FREE massages and coupons, for positive results.
  • Between appointment times with the nutritionist/trainer, women can track their progress at home using our interactive website.
