There are two student related factors with influence on the ratings: Economy and Language Proficiency.
Economy is measured through the proportion of students with a price reduce lunch; Language proficiency is measured with the percentage of students enrolled in ESOL program. The reasons behind the importance of the variables obtained is easy to understand:
-
Economy: The more stressed the financial situation of a student, the more obstacles to overcome and to achieve academic success, from the most sever, like facing a homelessness situation, to the mildest where the scarcity in the resources of the student can be reflected in a lack of time from their parents, to help him/her study a specific lesson.
-
Language Proficiency: This component is easier to understand, since all the standardize testing is executed in English, and those students enrolled in ESOL, are not proficient in understanding 100% of the tasks that are requested from them.
