JANUARY 2006-POPULATION ESTIMATE FOR THE CITY FOR NEW ORLEANS

The first extensive population estimate survey was performed from January 27-31 in New Orleans ,LA-Orleans Parish.  The survey was performed by the City of New Orleans Emergency Operations Center (EOC), Centers for Disease Control, University of South Florida (ME and some fellow researchers) and ~100 volunteers.

Here are some pictures of some of the neighborhoods!

The USF Crew in front of the SUPERDOME....across from the N.O. Emergency Operations Center and the Hyatt (one block away).  The roof has a temporary patch and a game is scheduled this summer.

Welcome to the Lower 9th ward.

Army Corp of Engineers repairing the levee.

The barge that went through the levee and other pictures.

Levee break #2 in Lakeside neighborhood and adjacent houses.

Gentilly and other  neighborhoods southwest to the French Quarter.

This was taken in a house where a mother built a refuge above the water for herself and her 4 children.

There are over 100,000 cars that were flooded and remain on the streets of New Orleans.  These were placed under I-10 by the residents for protection from flooding...it didn't work.

Rescuers markings.

MY STANCE....

These are just a small amount of the pictures.  The pictures cannot and do not truly depict the devastation.

THE PEOPLE OF NEW ORLEANS NEED YOUR HELP!!!  Donate to local grassroots organizations (Common Ground Collective and the Arabi Wrecking Krewe) not the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.  These people are in the trenches serving the needs of the people. They supply...masks to protect from mold and dust, boots, buckets, cleansers, help to clean-up neighborhoods and free law clinics to help residents.
