Personal Bio
I live in Citrus Springs, FL, which is about 90 miles north of Tampa, FL. I'm originally from Illinois--just outside of Chicago.
In July of 2001, I took an early retirement from Lucent Technologies in Lisle, IL. Before leaving Illinois, I completed the coursework for a Library Technical Assistant (LTA) certificate from the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL. While attending the College of DuPage, I worked as a student aide in InterLibrary Loan.
In January 2002, I volunteered to work at the Citrus Springs Memorial Library. Once a week I would spend a few hours cataloging new and donated books. This was a very interesting experience as they are not computerized and still maintain a real card catalog.
In April 2002, I was hired by the Citrus County Library System as a Library Aide. I worked Circulation at the Lakes Region Library in Inverness, FL. Additionally, I worked at the Floral City Library in Floral City, FL. About 10 months later I was transferred to the Central Ridge Library in Beverly Hills, FL. A few hours each week I spent time in Technical Services cataloging. In August 2004, I was promoted to a Reference Librarian at the Central Ridge Library. In October 2007, I was offered the position as Reference Librarian at the new Homosassa Public Library.
In addition to working full-time and attending USF, I also attended the Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute in Port Orange, FL from November 2007 through August 2008.
My husband Jim and I met in 2001 when we were both employed by Lucent Technologies. After retiring from Lucent, we sold our houses and moved down to sunny Florida. I guess we ended up in Citrus Springs for a reason. We love the area and have met so many great friends Interestingly--some of our friends from up north are also moving into the area.
Jim and I are motorcycle enthusiasts. We enjoy the many back roads of Citrus County and Florida's Nature Coast. I ride a Honda Gold Wing Trike--candy apple red. Jim rides a Harley Wide Glide--purple. We are very active in quite a few community and veterans organizations. A couple times a year we volunteer at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC.
