Feature

Ferrofluids: Colloidal suspension of magnetic nanoparticles

Iron oxide nanoparticles are coated with surfactant and dispersed in a nonpolar liquid, forming a stable suspension. The leftmost image shows the spikes due to the alignment of the magnetic moments of nanoparticles with the magnetic field. The other image shows a bar magnet that pulls on the ferrofluid inside the vial.

Poster Presentation

Last April 11, 2007, I presented a poster at the 3rd Annual IGERT Graduate Research Symposium held at USF Research Park. The poster featured our results on the DC and AC magnetization measurements we did on static iron oxide and cobalt ferrite ferrofluids.

APS March Meeting 2007 in Denver, Colorado

On March 5 - 9, 2007, I attended the APS meeting to present our preliminary results on the magnetic properties of static Fe3O4 ferrofluids. The meeting was held at the Colorado Convention Center in Downtown Denver. It was an exciting experience for me since it was my first time to participate and present a talk in a major international Physics conference.
