Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier (1768-1830) was one of the great mathematicians and physicists of his time. He derived many equations and established the Fouriers series, Fourier transform, and Fourier's Law. Fourier's Law had a major impact on Chemical Engineering as a field. From his observations other laws were formulated and from these laws, the field of Transport Phenomena developed. Aside from being a scientist he was part of the French Revolution, served in Egypt under Napoleon, and eventually was elected to the Academie des Sciences. He had been grouped with some of the greatest physicists of history including Galileo, Newton, Einstein, and Maxwell. Overall he has revolutionized the field of mathematics, physics, and laid a basis for many different techniques in solving chemical engineering problems.
