The goal of this website is to provide cyberbullying infomation as well
as safety and prevention tips for students, parents, educators, and
counselors.
What is cyberbullying?
Cyberbullying is when a child
or teenager is tormented, harrassed, humiliated, or embarrassed by
another child or teenager using the internet, cellular phones, or any
other technological device (Wikipedia).
Examples of cyberbullying:
- Sending mean or threatening emails.
- Pretending to be someone else on instant messager to get the other person to look bad.
- Sending hundreds of text messages to someone so their parents get a huge cell phone bill.
- Posting private information about someone in a chat room or blog.
- Creating hurtful websites in order to make fun of a peer.
Effects of cyberbullying:
Victims
of cyberbullying may experience low self-esteem, a drop in grades,
depression, a change in interests, or even suicide (National Crime Prevention).
