What
are our Goals?
This
FOCUS program’s goal is to provide supportive services to low-income and
first-generation college students that will help them achieve their career and educational
goals. Our aim is to
increase the number of youths from disadvantage backgrounds who complete high
school and enroll in postsecondary education institutions of their choice.

What are our Objectives?
- 85% of high school
seniors will graduate from high school.
- 85% “College Ready”
participants will apply for financial aid during each project period
- 85% of “College
Ready” participants will apply for post-secondary school admission during
each project period
- 80% of “College Ready” participants
will enroll in a program of postsecondary education during each project
period (or during the next fall term).
As
a result of this program, students will:
- demonstrate
an understanding of knowledge of self and the career planning process
- gain
exposure to college campuses (i.e. College Tours and Admissions Counseling)
- acquire
knowledge of how to explore career options and labor market
- receive
assistance in preparing for college entrance exams (i.e. SAT/ACT workshops
)
- students
and their parents gain information on financial aid, college admissions, academics
and other matters relating to postsecondary education
- acquire
knowledge of how to prepare for college life
- have
the opportunity to receive personal and/or group counseling about issues
relating to college transition
- receive
information on how to choose a college major and/or career path
- gain
exposure to tutoring and mentoring programs
- gain
insight and advice from others who were first-generation college students

What services do we
offer?
The FOCUS program provides individuals with
information and assistance on educational and career concerns. Services
provided by the program include:
- academic, financial, career, personal or group counseling
including advice on entry to postsecondary institutions
- career exploration and aptitude assessment
- information on postsecondary education
- information on student financial assistance
- exposure to college campuses
- assistance in completing college admissions and financial
aid applications
- assistance in preparing for college entrance exams
- mentoring and tutoring programs
- workshops for the families of participants on financial
aid, college admissions and other matters
