Prevention

The following are steps parents can take to minimize the liklihood cyberbullying will occur with their youth:

• build close communication with youth letting them know if they are the victim of cyberbullying they will not be punished
• instruct youth to never give any personal information to anyone
• educate youth about people on the internet pretending to be someone they aren't (a grown man pretending he is a 15 year old  male)
• teach youth never to respond to a cyberbully
• youth should never meet someone they have met online, unless a parent is with them
• when someone is angry they should never send an impulsive message

Victims of Cyberbullying

• teachers and parents should inform the police, telephone company, and  internet service provider immediately
• always save messages as eveidence
• encourage child not to respond to cyberbully
• block messages coming from email and cell phones
• if cyberbully is from school contact the school
