KC3 Positive Label Program
Cyber Bullying Edition

Grade/Subject: All High School Grades

Topic Objective:        Students will pose questions, collect data, represent and analyze the data, and interpret results and write report.

Procedure/Activity:    Review with students the basics of data collection, analyzing, and interpretation of data.
Relevance: This lesson plan supports your school's KC3 Positive Label program and increase cyber bullying preemption behaviors in these ways: Students will acquire the knowledge, attitudes and interpersonal skills to help them understand and respect self and others and students will make decisions, set goals, and take necessary action to achieve goals.

Instructions:    Students will formulate questions regarding cyber bullying of students on their grade level. Students
must write 10 questions focused on the interactions of their peers ex. interactions between social groups based on on-line communication. Students will then survey their grade population. Using the data, the students will construct tables, graphs, and a written report. The students will then average the cyberbullying interactions so to have a representation of the school population. Students will then write a report that could be published in the school
newspaper.

Extension Activity:    A large post will be placed in an area of the school where all students can see it. The pole will represent the life of a student. Based on the data collected by the newspaper staff, the staff will hammer a nail in
for each cyber bullying activity that was identified. For every 5 positive interactions, a nail will be removed. (5 positive interactions help relieve 1negative interaction) Even though 5 positive interactions have taken place, the hole remains
because of the impact that the negative interaction caused to the student. The school broadcast class can record the newspaper staff demonstrating their results.
